Course Aim:
Level 1 is for personnel with no current Industrial Rope Access experience, and is designed to ensure that candidates are fully competent in all industrial rope access techniques currently used, including simple rescue techniques. Level 2 is for personnel who hold the Industrial Rope Access technician level one qualification, with 1000 logged hours and 12 months experience and wish to proceed to level two. A level two technician is capable of rigging working ropes, undertaking rescues and performing rope access tasks, under the supervision of an approved IRATA level 3. Level 3 is for personnel who hold the Industrial Rope Access technician level two qualification, with a further 1000 logged hours and 12 months experience at level 2 and wish to proceed to level three. A level three supervisor must be capable of complete responsibility for work projects, undertaking advanced rescues and have a comprehensive knowledge of relevant legislation.

By gaining your IRATA qualifications your employment opportunities will be greatly enhanced. Rope access is used extensively in many sectors of the construction & civil engineering industry as well as the offshore oil and gas industry. Level 1 includes:
• Introduction: rope access as a means of access to the worksite & remaining safe.
• Maintenance & documentation of equipment: pre-use inspection.
• Legislation: relevant statutes, guidelines and standards.
• Personal equipment: function, fitting, strengths and limitations.
• Ropes: rigging & associated equipment: appropriate knots, safe
rigging and anchor selection.
• Descending & ascending: Twin rope system (working & safety
ropes).
• Rope manoeuvres: changeovers, rope to rope transfers, passing knots & obstructions, intermediate anchors, deviations, traverses and angled ascent/descent
• Climbing: aid climbing, use of fall arrest twin lanyards, protective progressive movement on fixed and moveable anchors.
• Basic rescue techniques: descent rescue and awareness of a basic haul and lower.
Level 2:
• Demonstrate level one technician skills.
• Rigging ropes for work and rescue situations
• Traversing – demonstrating safe lead climbing and aid traversing (including rescue)
• Rescues involving hauling, lowering, use of cable-ways and rescue of a casualty in ascent mode.
Oral examination including legislation, guidelines & standards, maintenance & inspection of equipment and worksite organisation.
Level 3 includes:
• Demonstrate level one and level two technician skills.
• Rigging ropes for work and rescue situations
• Comprehensive knowledge of pulley systems
• Rescues from a wide variety of situations (and the supervision of these)
Oral and written examination including legislation, guidelines & standards, maintenance & inspection of equipment and worksite organisation.
Prerequisites for Level 3:
You need to be of a min age of 21 years and shall be a qualified IRATA level two technician with a minimum of twelve months experience and 1000 hours work experience. This must include a variety of work situation and techniques. You must hold a current first aid qualification and a valid medical certificate
