Confined Space Rescue Systems

Davit Arm Systems

By providing height and outreach, davits offer a point of attachment that is convenient for its user. Due to the high overturning loads that can be generated by davit systems, it is essential that stability is provided by a base system or socket that is suitable for the task.

A davit arm is part of the system used to safely lower and raise people from height or in confined spaces to enable routine duties to be performed safely. They also provide a means for casualty extraction or rescue from confined spaces. Used in a variety of situations for example trenches, drop shafts, silos, tanks and cargo holds, davits can provide a flexible system for the protection against falls from height and rescue from confined spaces.

Certain davit systems can offer a permanent solution for workers that need to perform duties on the façade of a structure.

Davit Arm Solutions

Our davit arm and hoist systems are designed for working at height and confined space entry, and are fully tested and compliant with all relevant standards including BS 8610: 2017. The units are constructed of lightweight, high-strength materials and some systems can be broken down for easy transport.

A wide range of moveable davit bases are available including dead weight systems, H frames and even tow bar attachments. Freestanding portable bases are ideal for work areas where frequent set up and break down is required or where no suitable structure is available for the mounting of a fixed base.

When access is required on a regular basis, davit sockets can be used. These are manufactured as part of the davit system and can be fixed to concrete and steel where structural requirements can be met. Davit sockets are available in anodized or galvanised mild steel or stainless steel for a range of different structural configurations.

Our davit systems have been designed and installed for many of our major clients in the Energy & Utilities Sectors.

Workers required to use a davit arm should undertake training. Click here to find out more about our davit arm training.

Installation, Testing and Certification

Davit arm systems should be installed by a competent company. They should be visually checked before and after each use and be inspected annually to maintain safety standards. Note: where a davit is used to lift/lower personnel it comes under the LOLER Regulations and must be inspected in accordance with its recommendations. As experts in fall protection solutions, we offer a full design service, installation of the product and can provide ongoing annual inspection and certification.
